Eight years have passed since the death of Dženan Memic. On February 8, 2016, Dženan suffered serious injuries in Velika Aleja on Ilidža in Sarajevo, and died in hospital seven days later, on February 15. He was only 21 years old. However, even in eight years, the case has not been resolved.

Eight years have passed, and it has not been determined how and from whom Dženan Memic received injuries, after which he died. When the legal battle started, the proceedings were first conducted against Bekrija and Ljuba Seferović and each time they were acquitted. Both before the cantonal and the Supreme Court of the Federation, which acquitted the defendants of concealing the traffic accident in which Memic suffered injuries from which he died.

IFET FERAGET, lawyer of the Memic family

“After eight years of legal struggle, I can say that I am satisfied because the investigation is still being conducted against the prosecutors of the KS Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office, members of the KS MUP, for abuse of position and authority, and court experts for making false findings and opinions regarding the circumstances of Dženan’s suffering Memic.”

When it comes to the Prosecutor’s Office of Sarajevo Canton, in this case they are no longer taking action.

“The Prosecutor’s Office of Sarajevo Canton is not taking action, since the mentioned case has been handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina for further processing,” announced the KS Prosecutor’s Office.

It is the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina that takes over the case from the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office. After it became clear that Dženan did not die in a traffic accident, a trial was held for the concealment of evidence and the manner in which Dženan died. After three years, the Appellate Panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina found Alisa Ramić-Mutap guilty for giving a false statement to two and a half years in prison and Hasan Dupovac to three years in prison for abuse of office. The other accused were acquitted. After the appeal of the accused, the third instance council should respond to the appeals soon.

“We expect, at the very least, that this decision will be confirmed so that those who have been convicted will serve that sentence.”

“I’m interested in the investigation into the murder and the new procedure. The investigation into Dalida Burzić, Vahid Ćosić, Meris has been going on for too long, I received information that they all wanted to cancel the third-degree verdict. I have to announce a meeting with the chief state prosecutor Milanko Kajganić these days and this is how I ask him to receive me.”

The murder investigation is ongoing, and during the investigation the judge of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dalida Burzić, who was the chief cantonal prosecutor at the time of Dženan’s death, was suspended.

IFET FERAGET, lawyer of the Memic family

“The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is working very intensively on the case, acting prosecutors Hasanspahić and Čampara are leading the investigation, in which numerous police agencies are also involved, and I expect that, I hope, we will reach the end and determine who is the one who killed Dženan.”

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH replies that they are working intensively and that there are certain developments, but due to the confidentiality of the investigation, the details cannot be disclosed to the public.
