Elie Wiesel, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, a great humanist and a man who survived the Holocaust, passed away at the age of 87, stated the Yad Vashem – The World Holocaust Remembrance Center.
Wiesel was a great friend of BiH and in 1992 and 1993 he urged the authorities in USA to stop the war.
Wiesel was born on September 30, 1928 in Sighet, Romania. At the age of 15, the German Wehrmacht arrested him together with his family.
First he was in the concentration camp Auschwitz, then in Buchenwald. He was liberated in 1945, but his parents and sister died in the camp. He shared his distressing stories from camps through the book “Night”, which made his globally famous.
Wiesel won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 and he will be remembered as a fighter for human rights. His entire life he was an advocate for victims across the world, and in this region as well.
