Embassy of Russia in BiH: Christian Schmidt is not a High Representative

The Russian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that Christian Schmidt is not a high representative in BiH without, as they stated, a relevant resolution of the UN Security Council and that “the usurpation of the right to appoint a high representative by individual members of the Steering Committee of the Peace Implementation Council is absolutely unacceptable.” .

“We warn that all responsibility for inciting the already complicated internal political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the use of the person of Christian Schmidt, as well as the instruments of the Bonn powers, to which he has no right, will be borne by the authors of today’s statement,” announced the Russian Embassy on the occasion of today’s joint statement of the ambassadors of the countries – member of the PIC Board of Directors, in which they once again expressed firm and consistent support for the mandate of High Representative Christian Schmidt and the Office of the High Representative in supervising the implementation of the civilian aspects of the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP).

When it comes to the letter of UN Secretary General António Guterres, which was mentioned in the announcement, the Russian Embassy stated that “in this case, it only confirms that there is no appropriate UN Security Council resolution approving the candidacy of Christian Schmidt”.

“Therefore, it is illegitimate,” the Russian Embassy said in a statement.

The Embassy added that “the fact that after a significant period of time of Christian Schmidt’s work some ambassadors are turning to the topic of the legitimacy of the German citizen expressly confirms that they themselves do not believe in him”.

“Indeed, the chaotic actions of Schmidt and his incomprehensible rhetoric led to the disappointment of even those in BiH who naively believed in the ‘international community’. It has long been clear to everyone that the king is really naked. The tragicomic persona of Christian Schmidt is the best argument in favor of the closure Office of the High Representative”, reads the announcement of the Embassy of Russia.

The Embassy adds that the international “advocates” of Dayton themselves show, as stated, an astonishing disregard for the words and spirit of the peace agreement.

“They lack the courage to state in the ‘original’ English text the full name of the position of Milorad Dodik, the president of Republika Srpska, which they hide in the abbreviation RS,” the statement says.

The Russian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized that “the defenders of Dayton should know that Republika Srpska is a full participant in the peace agreement”.

“And they should also know that their job is to support the fair, balanced application of the provisions of the Dayton Agreement, and not to intimidate, threaten or violently promote the Euro-Atlantic perspective,” the Russian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina stated.
