The longtime captain of the national team of B&H Emir Spahić decided to finish his career in the national team.
This defender in the German Bayer from Leverkusen confirmed for Al Jazeera that he reached his final decision and that the matches he played in Brasil were his last matches for the national team where he spent 11 years.
“After the long talks I had with my family and friends and a lot of thinking, I decided to retreat. I am happy that I spent all those years in a team that gave me so much and where I was captain for so many years.” – said Spahić for Al Jazeera.
Spahić had his debute performance for the team of B&H on July 7th in 2003, against Romania, during the qualifications for the European Championship in Portugal. Since then, he played 77 matches and scored 3 goals.
He was a longtime captain of the national team of B&H and last year he achieved with that team the best success in history – it’s placing at the World Championship in Brazil.
