help to flooded areasDesire to help and make life easier to people in flooded areas in the Balkans inspired three employees of the Canadian company Thane International to establish an organization Balkan Relief Fund Toronto, which helps restoration in BiH and countries of the region with funds amounting 100.000 US Dollars.

Amir Tukulj, Director General of Thane International, Danijela Todorović, Sales Director and Financial Director and Russel Orelowitz from South Africa launched the idea, and found that it will not solve the problems, but can motivate others.

Tukulj told FENA that the Balkan Relief Fund was established several months ago, during floods which hit the Balkan region, and that it will work until planned funds are spent.

So far they have donated more than 40.000 Dollars of school supplies.

Tukulj said that textbooks were donated to elementary school in Maglaj, school supplies to elementary school ”Aleksa Šantić” in Vukosavlje, equipment and books for the school library, and that school furniture and books will be donated to elementary school ”Braća Radić” in Domaljevac.

‘’We still have not specified what we will do next, but we are talking to headmasters of several schools to determine their needs. Money of the Fund are at disposal to all educational institutions in flooded areas’’, said Tukulj.

He added that once they spend the funds, the organization does not plan to continue with further activities in this form.

The rest of the money will also be donated to schools, and Tukulj said the funds will be directed to any educational institution in flooded areas regardless of the country or entity.

‘’We wanted to help the endangered areas, because a lot of us working in Thane are originally from BiH and we wanted for the assistance to have a long-term effect, so we decided to help schools, education of young people’’, said Tukulj and added that Chancellor of the Zenica University Dževad Zečić and Director of the Publishing House ”Vrijeme” Muamer Spahić helped implement the project.
