Bosnian-Herzegovinian shot putter Enhar Mahmić (born 5 June 2008), with a new personal best of 19.34 metres, won first place and the gold medal at the 18th Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), for male and female athletes aged 14 to 18, which is being held in Skopje and Kumanovo in North Macedonia and co-organiser Osijek in Croatia.
This is also the first medal for BiH athletics at this competition, which started today and where Mahmić improved his personal best with the 5-kg shot put by as much as 55 centimetres. His previous personal best, which he set on 21 December last year at an indoor meeting in Belgrade, was 18.79 m.
Mahmić won by one centimeter ahead of Spaniard Hugo Casanes, who had the longest shot of 19.33, while Czech Filip Kappel was third with 19.25 meters, which is also his personal record.
Mahmić is a member of the Zenica Athletic Club, trained by the famous former Bosnian national team member Hamza Alić, and he won in a competition of 15 athletes and announced the continuation of the tradition of great shot putters from AK Zenica.
“We had everything ready for the performance at the EYOF and it turned out that we did well in this competition,” said Alić, who is also the president of AK Zenica and who traveled to Skopje with the Bosnian team, in a short statement for Fena news agency.
