The Government of the Republika Srpska, at a telephone session held on Friday considered the information from the Ministry of Justice of the Republika Srpska on the health condition of Ratko Mladić, and reached conclusions that, as stated, are being acted upon for humanitarian reasons.

The entity government’s statement states that the information from the Ministry of Justice on the health condition of Mladić has been accepted, and that a humanitarian appeal will be sent to the competent international institutions.

“The Government of the Republika Srpska will, based on humanitarian reasons and the principles of protecting human dignity, address the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals with a humanitarian appeal regarding the health condition of Ratko Mladić,” the statement states.

The humanitarian appeal was sent to the President of the Mechanism, Graciela Gata Santana, with a request that, in accordance with applicable rules and jurisdiction, the possibility of temporary release be considered for the purpose of, as stated, providing adequate medical care, treatment or palliative care.

The Government of Republika Srpska expressed its readiness, if such a decision is made by the competent international institutions, to provide all necessary guarantees and conditions for treatment on the territory of Republika Srpska.

After the telephone session, the Government of Republika Srpska formally sent a humanitarian appeal to the President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.
