On the occasion of International Museum Day on May 16, the Museum of Sarajevo has prepared a program with free admission to all museum branches, expert guided tours and special events for all visitors.
Brusa Bezistan and the Sarajevo Museum 1878-1918 will be open until 8:00 PM, while the Jewish Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Svrzo’s House and Despić House will be open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with expert guidance from curators through the exhibits, the Museum of Sarajevo announced.
A new permanent exhibition, “Models of the Sarajevo Museum”, will be opened in the unique ambiance of Svrzo House.
This special exhibition tells the story of Sarajevo’s past through carefully crafted models depicting Baščaršija, old Sarajevo neighborhoods, traditional houses and summer homes of famous families. These are the author’s works of prominent modelers, Husein Karišik and Mesud Sarić, whose works represent a combination of art, knowledge and exceptional technical precision. The setting not only revives the former appearance of the city, but also reminds of parts of Sarajevo that have disappeared or changed significantly over time.
In the Sarajevo 1878-1918 Museum, visitors will be able to watch the VR film “Sarajevo Assassination”.
“We invite you to celebrate together the International Museum Day, which is held around the world under the slogan “Museums that unite a divided world” and celebrates the 80th year of ICOM, and to discover the stories of Sarajevo and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of our city,” said the Museum of Sarajevo.
