As of today, Sarajevo International Airport is richer for another extremely important destination. Today, the first plane from Ankara with 179 passengers landed ceremoniously at Sarajevo Airport, officially establishing the first direct airline between the capitals of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Turkey.

This line brings a great improvement in air traffic, and Ankara has officially become the 46th destination accessible from Sarajevo airport. During the upcoming summer season, flights will take place twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which leaves ideal opportunities for both weekend tourism and longer stays.

A historic step forward in connecting the two countries

Acting Director of Sarajevo International Airport Dino Selimović pointed out that this line represents a historic step forward in connecting the two countries. “During the summer season, Sarajevo will be connected to five destinations in the Republic of Turkey, with around 60 weekly flights, which clearly speaks of the intensity and importance of this cooperation. The route to Ankara is the third airline of the airline AJET from Sarajevo, in addition to the airlines to Bodrum and Istanbul. We are sure that it will further strengthen tourism, business flows and cultural exchange between the two countries,” said Selimović.

The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Ankara, Mirsada Čolaković, emphasized the deep historical and cultural ties between the two countries, adding that Turkey is an extremely important political and economic partner that respects the sovereignty of the countries in the Balkans. “This new airline is another bridge that connects our peoples and strengthens friendship. Ankara is a city of warm and open people, and the new line will further facilitate contacts between people, business cooperation and tourist flows,” said Čolaković.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Emin Akseki, expressed great satisfaction that the long-standing common goal of the two governments has become a reality, expressing his belief that the line will further strengthen bilateral relations in all aspects. Tickets for the new line are already available, and the flight schedule is fully adapted to the needs of passengers.
