The delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that it was aware of the decision of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to include Bosnia and Herzegovina in the list of jurisdictions under enhanced supervision, and called on the local authorities to eliminate the shortcomings identified in the FATF Action Plan within the agreed deadlines.
The EU Delegation states that they have also taken note of the political determination of the domestic authorities to eliminate the strategic deficiencies identified in the Action Plan as soon as possible.
“The European Union has provided significant technical assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina in this area through programs financed by the EU and is ready to continue supporting BiH in the implementation of the measures foreseen in the domestic Action Plan for the FATF,” it was highlighted in the statement.
It is added that progress in the implementation of these reforms can contribute to strengthening the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The EU Delegation also reminds of the importance of reforms in the context of financial integration of the region, stressing that membership in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) brings concrete benefits to citizens and the business community in the Western Balkans.
“In order to achieve these benefits, it is important that Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to implement the necessary reforms, including reforms in the fight against money laundering,” the EU Delegation to BiH announced.
