EU support for BiH Discussed in Meeting with Prime Minister of Republika Srpska

cvijanovic ZThe humanitarian rescue operations conducted by the EU following the recent floods and long term assistance for the country were discussed at a meeting today between the Head of the EU Delegation/EU Special Representative, Ambassador Peter Sorensen, and the Prime Minister of the RS, Mrs Zeljka Cvijanovic.

Ambassador Sorensen informed the Prime Minister that 20 EU Member States have provided emergency assistance either financially or in rescue services. Over 400 personnel from EU Member States are involved in the ongoing emergency relief work. He noted that the European Union is consulting intensively with the BiH authorities on the allocation of millions of euros of IPA funds for short to medium term assistance that will be available by the end of June. Following the publication of the Recovery Needs Assessment, the EU will address the issue of further assistance funds from IPA 2 (2014 – 2020).
