On 8 May 2026, EUFOR Commander, Major General Maurizio Fronda, delivered a keynote address at the Mostar Security Forum, bringing together regional experts and institutions to examine today’s complex security environment.

Organised by the Institute for Socio-Political Research and the Hybrid Warfare Research Institute, with the support of the University of Mostar, the forum focused on the evolving security challenges of Southeast Europe, with particular attention to Bosnia and Herzegovina within the broader transatlantic framework.

Discussions highlighted a clear need: stronger, coordinated engagement at the national level, bringing together expertise to better recognize and respond to modern and hybrid threats.

In his address, Major General Fronda outlined EUFOR’s core mission and the principles guiding its work such as impartiality, unity, credibility, integrity, cooperation, and progress. He underlined that EUFOR engage daily with civilian and military authorities, through institutional meetings, planning joint training and cooperation activities, maintaining a “portfolio” of activities related to security.

“We closely monitor various factors of potential security instability and closely follow political developments, seeking to grasp the nuances of social change and anticipate potential critical issues” Major General Fronda said.

EUFOR’s goal is to support the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina with its impartial presence, implementing its executive mandate to assist local authorities in maintaining a Safe and Secure Environment, primarily with the law enforcement agencies and Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Discussion and exchange of visions, it is important to emphasize how appropriate it is for all States, without exception, to have moments in which policymakers, diplomats, security experts, both civilian and military, discuss the evolving challenges, expectations, and even threats” Major General Fronda added.

In an increasingly complex security landscape, one message stands clear: lasting stability depends on partnership, responsibility, and the shared commitment to act before challenges become crises.
