EUFOR Member who died in Vlasic Mountain was a Member of Austrian Army

Austrian media announced that the EUFOR member who died on Saturday in Vlašić was a member of the Austrian army.

Christoph Hofmeister from the Carinthian military command confirmed for the Austrian media 5min.at that the soldier who died in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday was part of the engagement of the Austrian armed forces.

He is said to have fallen during a climbing tour. The soldier was 56 years old at the time of his death.

As stated, the body of the fallen soldier will be returned to his homeland in the next few days.

The EUFOR command announced that a soldier who served in the mission died after an accident that occurred during a walk in the mountainous area near Travnik.

As it was emphasized, the two soldiers used their free time for a walk in the area of Travnik when the accident happened in the mountainous area.

“After EUFOR was alerted to this, an EUFOR MEDEVAC helicopter was deployed to their location. EUFOR MEDEVAC faced difficult terrain and weather during this operation. A doctor and paramedic treated the injured soldier who was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene “, it was stated.

On this occasion, EUFOR sent its condolences to the family and friends of the soldiers.

“EUFOR would like to take this opportunity to express its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of this soldier at this difficult time. Another soldier, who was not injured, was also evacuated by an EUFOR MEDEVAC helicopter. EUFOR will continue to provide support in all situations. EUFOR also wishes to thank the medical institution that provided assistance,” they concluded.
