The deployment of additional EUFOR forces began today with the aim of reinforcing the presence of forces in Operation “Althea”, which currently numbers approximately 1,100 members from the Multinational Battalion.
According to the planned dynamics, the deployment of additional EUFOR forces, with the support of the air forces of the countries participating in Operation “Althea”, began today.
As unofficially confirmed to Klix.ba, the reinforcement includes a contingent of 400 soldiers with accompanying vehicles and equipment.
The deployment is being carried out by C-27J Spartan transport aircraft of the Czech, Romanian and Italian air forces. The reserve force contingent is being deployed according to the established procedure according to which the forces of the Hungarian contingent will not be included, although it was initially announced.
By land, EUFOR soldiers and equipment arrive via the Bijača and Svilaj border crossings.
According to existing information, the new contingent of forces will be reinforced with an additional four helicopters, which will significantly strengthen the EUFOR air component.
If necessary, EUFOR can deploy up to 3,500 soldiers from the reserve forces of the countries participating in the operation, according to Klix.ba.
The need to deploy reserve forces arose after the recent escalation of the political crisis related to the trial of the President of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik.
