Lufthansa Group and Italy’s ITA Airways extended the suspension of flights to and from Tel Aviv until June 8th on Tuesday amid rising tensions between Israel and Yemen’s Houthi group.
The two airlines were due to resume flights to Tel Aviv on May 25th, but the exchange of attacks between Israel and the Houthis forced them to extend the suspension by another two weeks.
The Lufthansa Group includes Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings.
On Tuesday, Greek carrier Aegean suspended flights to Tel Aviv until May 21st, and Polish carrier LOT Airlines until May 25th.
British Airways also suspended flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport until June 14th, while Air Canada extended its suspension until September 8th.
Since November 2023, the Houthis have targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli attacks since October 7, 2023, have killed nearly 53,600 Palestinians.
