”Tree of Wishes” is the name of solo exhibition of paintings of Kemal Mehmedović which will be opened on Monday, 28 January in Gallery of Contemporary Arts ”Java” in Sarajevo”
This artist, as he claims, paints a warm, friendly and soothing tree. He paints an abstract tree, the idea of tree, its essence as a static explosion of life.
This ”tree” in not just an abstract and symbolic tree in sacral art but it is also being used in science.
”Tree of Life” is a very common motif in European sacral art of the new era, especially because of its mentioning in the Book of Genesis.
Second wave of motifs of the tree, which can be found on monuments, came to Europe from the East with all the mystic Gnostic teachings and schools that were often considered heretical.
This road also passed through BiH, and left its mark in the stone, on famous ”Zgošćanski stećak”.
The tree is also the basic motif of Kabbalah and some Sufi schools, and it can also be found in Sanskrit literature where it is mentioned as Kalpavriksha – a wish fulfilling divine tree, which is also the name of the exhibition (Tree of Wishes).
Mehmedović admires its serenity, tranquillity, unselfishness and stability and through tree he admires the life itself.
Kemal Mehmedović (1988) is a young painter from Sarajevo who is well known for his paintings with the motif of a lonely tree.
The exhibition will be opened until late February.
