Exporters relieved: Exports of beef to Turkey will begin in June

Meat Export from Tuzla klix.baExports of beef to Turkey will begin in June, and every day more than 40 tons of fresh beef will be exported. The Turkish company which won the tender for the import of 5,700 tons of beef from Bosnia and Herzegovina is negotiating with BiH companies interested in exporting beef from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Turkey. As BiH companies announced several delegations are in Turkey and are negotiating the terms of beef exports.

One of these companies is the company Piemonte from Tuzla, which has told us that they have not completed the negotiations and that will give us a straight answer on the export of meat to Turkey after the return of their delegation.

So far meat from BiH was mainly transported with planes to Turkey, and holders of this work were the International Airport Sarajevo and Banja Luka airport. However, other bosnian airports have shown interest in this business as well. International airport Tuzla and Mostar Airport got permission for marketing products of animal origin at the end of last year, but given the fact that export of meat to Turkey stopped exactly by the end of 2015, they did not have the opportunity to engage in this business.

But now they are ready. The International Airport Tuzla told us that these days the negotiations with companies that export meat will begin, and they will know more details about it after talking with interested companies.

Mesoprodukt from Bijeljina which is bankrupt right now, is ready for this job. The company will perform the service of slaughtering and processing of meat for export.

Farmers, on the other hand, are ready as well because they already have beef which is stalled and just waiting to be sold.

The purchase price offered to farmers this year is lower than the previous – 3.8 to 4 KM per kilogram, as opposed to last year’s 4.4 to 4.6 KM per kilogram of living animals. However, although the price is lower than last year, farmers are satisfied with the fact that exports will continue and that they will be able to sell their meat, because until recently, they did not know what to do with it. No one was able to buy such large quantities, and it also could not be exported.
