Express Reaction: Is the Turkish Government really not involved?

The Center for Combating Disinformation of the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey issued a statement today regarding the claims of some Bosnian and Herzegovina media outlets about the alleged intervention of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the establishment of government in BiH.

“The claims recently made by some Bosnian and Herzegovina media outlets that “Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intervened in the process of establishing government” are not true.

Namely, this claim was made by journalist Zoran Krešić in a guest appearance on BRHT three days ago.

“A few months ago, I heard some kind of story from serious political circles that Erdogan encouraged certain politicians to carry out a government reconstruction here and that he even allegedly offered Dodik some kind of financial support if the SDA entered the state Council of Ministers. I hope we will see whether this is another additional entanglement of relations or an unraveling, “said Krešić.

The similar claims were made in previous years, pointing to Turkey’s alleged involvement in the reconstruction of the government in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the official Ankara did not provide any reaction.

“Turkey, within the framework of respecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity and multiethnic structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina, contributes to the steps taken by following the reform process of Bosnia and Herzegovina and supports the country’s integration into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions (EU and NATO). The problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina are approached from an impartial perspective that encompasses all segments of society, and with a sincere and constructive attitude,” the statement from the Center for Combating Disinformation of the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey states.

They recall that Turkey is a member of the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council and that, through its participation in the EUFOR-Althea mission, it contributes to peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

“Our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasizes at every opportunity that decisions in the country should be made through democratic processes and that interventions contrary to democratic principles should not be allowed in any way. Claims about Turkey’s opposite position are unfounded,” they emphasize in a statement from the Center for Combating Disinformation of the Communications Directorate of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey.
