The death toll from the earthquakes in Japan has risen to 48, and at least 50 people have been injured, Ishikawa Prefectural authorities said.
In the prefecture, more than 200 buildings burned and more than 100 collapsed, leaving a large number of people trapped under the rubble.
Rescuers and firefighters are on the ground, and the Japan Defense Forces are helping to deal with the aftermath of the earthquake.
About 60,000 people have been evacuated so far, TASS reported.
More than 200 earthquakes have hit Japan since yesterday morning. The strongest earthquake had a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale. A tsunami warning was in effect along the west coast for more than 20 hours.
