To what Extent Freedom of Media exists in BiH?

media freedomMiralem Merdic, an editor in chief and owner of a local web portal from Tesanj, was fined with 200 BAM (100 euros) while taking a photo of irregularly parked vehicle in the rural sub-municipality of Jelah by a police officer on Friday, 16th January 2015.

Merdic described the event for the local media. “While I was taking photo of the vehicle, Jasmin Polutak, a police officer, approached and asked what I was doing.”

The journalist explained that he was taking photo of the irregularly parked vehicle for his portal. The police officer left the scene. However, a few days later, he received a the 200 BAM fine at his home address.

Merdic was penalized under the pretext of “infringing the public order and peace”, local media reported.
