Ideal Day Bjelašnica radiosarajevo.ba 2The next few days will be marked by extremely low temperatures in BiH, and temperatures on Saturday will drop to – 24 °C on mountains, as said from Federal Hydrometeorological Institute (FHMZ).

Climatologist Ibrahim Hadzismajlovic said that we can expect quite low temperatures from Friday to end of the week and a few days of the next week.

“Temperature on Friday morning will be from -14 °C to -7 °C, and in the south from – 4 °C to 1 °C. Temperature on mountains will be around – 20 °C. Daily temperature will be from – 11 °C to – 5 °C, in the south from 2 °C to 4 °C. On Saturday will be also extremely cold weather with temperatures ranging from -17 °C to -10 °C, in the south from – 5 °C to – 1 °C, and on mountains and highlands up to – 24 °C. Daily temperatures will range from – 12 °C to – 6 °C, in the south from – 3 °C to 1 °C,” said Hadzismajlovic.

On Sunday is expected a similar weather, with morning temperatures from – 18 °C to – 10 °C, in the south from – 5°C to 1°C, and on the mountains up to – 22 °C. Daily temperatures will range from – 10 °C to – 4 °C, and on south from – 3 °C to 2 °C.

During the next week, from 9th to 15th of January 2017, the same weather will remain with a lot of low temperatures. From the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute (FHMZ) told us that they will issue an orange warning due to extremely cold temperatures.

When it comes to record minimum air temperatures, the coldest on Bjelasnica was on the 2nd of January 1905, when they measured – 33 °C. On the 11th of November 1967, in Livno was measured – 29.6 °C, and on the 13th of January 1985 in Bugojno was measured – 29.4 °C.

When it comes to the capital of BiH, the record was recorded on the 24th of January 1964 when it was measured -26.4 °C. Due to the low temperatures and bad weather in recent days, doctors from the Emergency Medical Center of Sarajevo Canton have more work as well, due to higher patient admission due to fractures of extremities.

Due to the extremely low temperatures, Public Health of CS issued recommendations, including:

– In rooms that are not heated, just before the start of winter, drain the water from water pipes, tanks or boilers and the heating system which is not in operation.

– Spend least time possible in outdoors or unheated indoor space (particularly the chronically ill, children, pregnant women and the elderly).

– Before going outside, wear enough warm clothes and warm shoes, with emphasis on the protection of the head, upper and lower extremities (hands and feet).

– Avoid unnecessary movement, particularly below the roofs of buildings or under trees.
