Facts about Bosnia and Herzegovina that we should all know!

Bosnia was mentioned for the first time in the document De Administrando Imperio, the political-geographic manuscript of Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII between 948 and 952, where it was described as a small country of Bosnia.

1154 – Bosnian banovina was founded.

1377 – The Kingdom of Bosnia was founded under the leadership of Tvrtko I.

1463 – Bosnia fell under Ottoman occupation, but full occupation took place 100 years later when Bihac was conquered in 1592.

1878 – Bosnia was given to Austro Hungary at the Berlin Congress. The expression Bosnien und Herzegovina was used for the first time then.

December 1, 1918 – BiH became part of the Kingdom of SHS (later the Kingdom of Yugoslavia)

November 25, 1943 – The statehood of BiH was renewed at the first sitting of ZAVNOBiH in Mrkonjic Grad, in the middle of World War II.

1945 – 1992 – BiH was part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY).

March 1, 1992 – The independence of BiH was acquired on the referendum.

April 8, 1992 – The old name Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was changed into Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

May 22, 1992 – Bosnia and Herzegovina was admitted into the UN.

November 21, 1995 – The signing of the Dayton Agreement resulted in the end of the war, as well as the abolition of “Republica” from the name of our country. Since then, the official name of our country is Bosnia and Herzegovina.

November 25th and 26th, 1943 – the Resolution of the National Anti-Fascist Council of National Liberation of BiH (ZAVNOBiH) was adopted, BiH Statehood Day
