Precipitation in recent days has lead to increased monitoring of water levels on all watercourses in the Sava River Basin in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH).
Agency for the Sava River Basin Sarajevo regularly, several times during the day, analyzes in detail the current water levels on the network of automatic water meters in the Sava River Basin in FBiH owned by the Agency, weather forecast for the next four days submitted by the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, current water levels on the Sava River upstream of the border with BiH which are available on the website of Adriatic Sea Watershed Agency, precipitation and water level forecast results of the forecast model for Una-Sana, Vrbas, Bosna, Drina,as well as forecast model platforms for the entire Sava River Basin.
”Based on data collected from the network of automatic hydrological stations in the Sava River Basin in the FBiH, stagnation and falling water levels are currently being recorded at most hydrological stations in the Una, Sana, Vrbas, Bosna, and Drina basins. There were no new precipitation yesterday, so the downward trend will be continued. Only at the hydrological station Maglaj has the level at which the notification of floods begins been reached, but it was expected to reduce the level and stop sending notifications, ” the Agency announced.
Water levels on part of the Sava River in the FBiH are also rising, but are significantly lower than the level at which regular flood defense measures are declared.
According to yesterday‘s meteorological forecast issued by the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of FBiH, new precipitation is announced for Monday and Tuesday in the western and central areas of Bosnia, and in the north and east of Herzegovina.
Analysis of hydrological-hydraulic forecast models for the period from November 8th to 9th, and given the current hydrological situation in the basins, water levels in the riverbeds, soil saturation with water, a new increase in water levels is expected in the basin of the Sana, Vrbas, and Bosna. Torrential watercourses on which the water level may increase in this period are in the area of the Vrbas and Bosna basins.
The Sava River Basin Agency suggested to the competent institutions as well as to the population living along the watercourses to monitor the situation on the field and act in accordance with the authorizations and with increased caution.
