600_1474096614zeljo-slavija-22042015-_40FC Željezničar is celebrating its 95th birthday today. On this day in 1921, Željo played its first match in history. It was the match against SAŠK Napredak, which was one of the best clubs at the territory of BiH at the time.

A young railway worker Dimitrije Dimitrijević, who was born and raised in the center of the city, presented the idea about the founding of Željezničar to his colleague and fellow carman Ludvig Leple in 1920.

Together with Stjepan Katalinić, they formed an initiative board, the forerunner of the first Administration of the Club, headed by the construction engineer Hinko Tezgeš, Austrian by birth and Hungarian by nationality. All workers of the railways gave their contribution to the establishment of their club: they bought a ball, first sport equipment, training sessions were held at the military polygon Egzercir, they designed the club symbols, and girlfriends of the players embroidered a locomotive on the shirts – the first coat of arms of the club.

The Blues were welcomed to the Federation on September 19, 1921. The Blues lost the match against SAŠK Napredak with a result of 5:1 and the only goal for the club was scored by Dimitrije Dimitrijević.
