The federal water inspector carried out an inspection at the business entity Arcelor Mital d.o.o. Zenica after receiving a report about incident pollution of the Bosna River in Zenica.
During the monitoring, waste water samples were taken from the channel of the plant, and an authorized company was ordered to be engaged in order to prevent further uncontrolled discharge of waste water, which was done immediately.
The acting federal water inspector visited the part of the Bosna river downstream from the outlet, and concluded that the water was cloudy, dark brown in color and that no fish mortality was observed.
Also, a sample of waste water was taken from the main collector on the Bosna River, which was handed over to the laboratory employees of the Agency for the Water Area of the Sava River in Sarajevo, where it will be subjected to testing.
All competent authorities – the police, the cantonal water inspector, and the competent Agency for the water area of the Sava River – have been informed about the incident pollution, in order to take further measures within the scope of their competences.
The Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs undertakes all legally prescribed measures within its jurisdiction in order to determine the cause and sanction the perpetrator of pollution, and after the completion of the inspection, the public will be informed in a timely manner about the findings and the measures taken, announced the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs.
