The Government of the Federation accepted the initiative and approved the introduction of a legal ban on physical punishment of children in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina through the process of drafting a new Family Law, this was confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The initiative was initiated by Vildana Bešlija (Naša stranka), a delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Violence against children has no place in any environment, protecting the dignity and rights of children must be our priority. I will fight for the ban to be applicable in all environments: in the family, educational and other institutions, because the child is not anyone’s property, but the holder of full rights. This is the moment when the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has the opportunity to make a civilizational step forward and clearly align itself with European and international standards of child protection”, said Bešlija, reminding that such a ban already exists in the legislation of Republika Srpska.
“It’s time to ensure legal uniformity and equal protection for every child in the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” she said.
Most of the countries of the Western Balkans have already implemented this ban, including Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, Our Party points out.
