In the next few months, the entire Corridor 5C should be under construction, i.e. work should also begin on the remaining sections of this road, which will represent the lifeblood of this country after its construction, as it will enable a large part of Central Europe to be connected to Southeastern Europe and the Adriatic Sea.

As explained by the Public Utility Motorways (Autoceste) of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), activities are currently being carried out that should ensure the contracting of the section Mostar north – Mostar south, then one of the most important sections of Corridor 5C of the Prenj tunnel, the completion of which will also mark the completion of the construction of this road, as well as the tunnel Kvanj.

According to Denis Lasic, acting director of Public UtilityMotorways of the FBiH, plan is to start construction of 30 kilometers of motorways in Herzegovina this year. It is also planned to contract the remaining last section on the northern part of Corridor 5C on the stretch from Maglaj to Zepce in a length of 12 kilometers.

At the beginning of the work on the mentioned section, the entire northern part of Corridor 5C will be under construction. Lasic also states that during the first half of next year, the plan is to contract the Mostar south section – Kvanj tunnel.

With the start of work on this section, the entire southern part of Corridor 5C will be under construction. In order for the works to be completed, it is necessary to secure funds and call for a tender for the section from Bradina to the entrance to the Prenj tunnel, which is currently in the stage of drafting project documentation.

What will be completed

The Prenj tunnel will be on the motorway section between Konjic and Mostar and will be the longest tunnel on Corridor 5C, the ninth longest tunnel in Europe and the 30th longest tunnel in the world. More precisely, its length will be 10.9 kilometers. It is estimated that the construction will cost 400 million euros and will last six years.

According to announcements from the Public Utility Motorwaysof the FBiH, by the end of this year, 21 kilometers of the highway will be completed and connected through Herzegovina.

According to Lasic, the Pocitelj – Zvirovici section will be completed and put into traffic by the end of this year.

”Users will have the opportunity to drive the motorway without interruption in a length of about 120 kilometers, from Bradina at the entrance to Herzegovina to Poprikuse near Zepce,” said Lasic. He added that eight construction sites are currently active on the construction of the Vc corridor, that is, work is being done on the construction of a total of 61 kilometers of this road through the entire FBiH, Biznis Info reports.
