In majority of world companies, pilots are male persons. Women rarely decide to finish pilot training, and even when they to, it is usually for small aircrafts. Through history, there have been several female pilots in B&H, while the others opted for parachuting.
According to the Aero Club Sarajevo, the first female pilot in B&H was Fatima Mušić, married Manojlović. She completed training on Trojka plane in the first class of the pilot school of the Aero Club Sarajevo, and received a certificate of successfully completed training on September 11, 1950. She started training in May 1950. Music started flying independently in August, and successfully terminated school after 95 flights, of which 15 were independent. Fatima lives in Canada today.
During past years, the Aero Club Sarajevo has been collecting data on all its members, as well as events related to them. There were some funny and sad stories, all of them having one thing in common – passion for flying. Here are several names of female pilots who were better than their male colleagues.
Zlata Hadžiabdić, married Berberih, was also a pilot. A newspaper article was written about her in 1961, with a photo of her entering the Vaja plane. She has 240 hours of flight in sailplanes, and she was also engaged in parachuting where she recorded 84 jumps. She lives in Canada today.
Milena Blagojević, married Pejić, also lives in Canada. She completed training in Novi Travnik in 1963, for a sailplane. At the time, she was the only woman among 22 students. She was the first to start flying independently.
Judita Bušić, known as Seka, died in 1982. She was married to Miroslav Šušnjar Šucko, and they met precisely at flying classes in Butmir. Hence, their marriage was also called “Butmir marriage”. Their love towards sailplanes and each other can clearly be seen in many photos. Namely, there were 14 “Butmir” marriages.
Miranda Čičak completed sailplane training in 1980. She went to the Second Gymnasium in Sarajevo, and passed away last year.
Vojka Marić was known as a dignified and polite girl with a great passion towards sailplanes. Her brother Bate was also engaged in flying. She finished training in 1960s, and died in 2004.
Ines Martinović finished Civil Engineering School, department of Architecture. Her first independent flight was in 1980.
According to the Directorate for Civil Aviation, currently only one female person in B&H possesses certificate of a sports plane pilot, and she lives in Slovenia.
