A festive welcoming of the New Chinese year was organized last night in Mostar for the very first time. New year was started with a spectacular firework, which lasted for more than ten minutes and astonished numerous citizens of Mostar, tourists and the political establishment of BiH and China.

A rich cultural and entertaining program under the title “Happy Chinese New Year” was performed in the full hall of the Croatian House of Duke Stjepan Kosaca after the spectacular fireworks. The program was performed by the Beijing Dance Academy, which presented truly beautiful cultural heritage of China.

This festive event was organized by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to BiH, Chen Bo, who previously visited associations and institutions that are taking care of people with special needs and brought them gifts, and she also noted the importance of good relations between China and BiH.

The fact that cooperation between China and BiH is very important was witnessed with the last night’s ceremony, which gathered intellectual and political establishment of BiH led by the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Dragan Covic.

The year of 2018, according to the Chinese tradition, is the Year of the Dog, which is the 11th animal in the Chinese horoscope.

Chinese believe that a dog in the house symbolizes happiness and thus they believe that the year of the dog will bring a lot of good stuff. In that spirit, every guest of the ceremony got a stuffed dog as a gift and it represented a symbol of the wish for new and good beginnings.

Realization of this event, besides the Embassy of the Republic of China in BiH, was also supported by the Office of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH and Chinese citizens who are living outside their homeland.
