Investors in Trebinje novosti.rsThe territory of BiH belongs to the relatively seismically active zone, as explained from the Department of Seismology on the Federal Hydro-meteorological Institute of BiH (FHMZ BiH).

On the territory of BiH almost daily occur, on average, 3 earthquakes with the intensity of less than 3 degrees according to Mercalli scale, which are registered only by instruments. Stronger earthquakes are relatively rare.

Although it is very difficult to give any kind of “prognosis” for seismic events for any territory, however, based on instrumental data (catalog) by applying mathematical-physical model of seismicity, it was concluded that in the next 50 years on the territory of BiH are expected earthquakes of maximum intensity up to 7 degrees according to the Mercalli scale.

Earthquakes of this intensity are known to cause material damage to buildings, mostly without casualties.

However, in the period of next 100 years and more, according to this forecasts, devastating earthquakes might take place in southeastern and northwestern part of BiH (Trebinje, Neum, Banja Luka and Treskavica Mountain), which can cause enormous damage to the buildings and take a lot of human lives.
