Fines for Parents of Students in BiH who misbehave up to 1.500 BAM

After the terrible case in which a student seriously wounded a teacher in an elementary school in Lukavac with a shot from a firearm, the authorities started to change the law in Tuzla Canton (TC). Among other things, fines for parents of students who misbehave will amount to 1.500 BAM.

Namely, in order to create preconditions for the safest possible stay of students in schools in the TC, the local government established proposals for amendments to the Law on Primary Education and the Law on Secondary Education.

“These changes create the legal basis for the adoption of other regulations that will regulate the behavior of students during their education and the behavior of parents related to cooperation with the school in order to recognize, prevent and/or stop the unacceptable antisocial behavior of students,” stated the Government of TC.

As they explained, the changes foresee appropriate penal provisions, as well as the need to create the basis for ensuring and implementing appropriate technical and physical security in schools.

“Amendments foresee the imminent adoption of another regulation that will regulate house rules at school and the obligation of parents to ensure that the child, during the duration of compulsory education at school, adheres to the principles and rules that will be defined by that regulation. These amendments define fines, from 500 BAM to 1.500 BAM, as a sanction for parents who do not act in accordance with the prescribed obligations,” emphasized the Government of TC.

Bearing in mind the necessity of urgent action, these new legislative proposals were referred to the parliamentary procedure under the urgent procedure.

As is well known, the June case in which a student arrived at school with a gun and seriously wounded his English teacher, horrified Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), as well as the regional public.

After that, the authorities started to take certain measures, one of them being changes to the mentioned laws. On the other hand, the educators held a peaceful walk in Lukavac, which was joined by a large number of citizens and parents of students.

The goal was to point out the bad state of the education system and the necessity of taking crucial steps so that safety in schools would be at a much higher level than the current one, Klix.ba reports.
