“Fire Shoes” in Sarajevo: Exhibition About the Lives of Jewish Women

galerija_novi_hramThe Jewish cultural-educative and humanitarian association “La Benevolencija” and the Jewish Municipality in Sarajevo organize an exhibition entitled “Fire shoes” by Rahela Džidić which will be open tomorrow.

The exhibition is implemented within the European day of Jewish Culture which is this year marked with the theme “Women in Judaism” in all Europe.

The exhibition represents a way to preserve the fragments of Jewish women’s lives in B&H from fading into oblivion.

For hundreds of years, they have been the centre of their families and the exhibition will also show a new way of perceiving their role.

The visitors will have the chance to get to know better the lives Jewish women had at the time, the customs of their religion and society, the way they lived in the family and in the community, personal and public achievements – all of that accompanied with numerous photos and traditional objects from every day and sacral life.

The work of the Association of Jewish women in B&H and the women’s section “Bohorete” will also be presented: they prepare traditional culinary specialties accompanied by Sephardic songs prepared by the members of the Youth club.

The exhibition will be open from 14th to 18th September.- was announced by the organizers.
