Group of BiH construction companies, led by Euro-Asfalt Sarajevo, has finished the first phase of constructing the ”Vijenac” tunnel, which consists of digging up the tunnel and setting the protection.

Manager of Euro-Asfalt Hamed Ramić said to FENA: ”Currently we are digging the last meters of the tunnel in the left tube, which will be finished today, and today, on the Day of Independence of BiH, the tunnel would be officially excavated.”

The tunnel ”Vijenac” is currently the most demanding construction project at the corridor 5C,says Ramić and it is also the largest tunnel that a BiH company has excavated.

In the second tube, additional 300 metres needs to be excavated and it will be finished in 20 days.

”According to contract, the deadline for finishing the first phase of works is the end of the March and we will comply with the deadline”, added Ramić.
Apart from Euro-Asfalt, ŽGP Sarajevo, Hidrogradnja Sarajevo, Entea Sarajevo and Butmir Sarajevo also worked on the tunnel.

Ramić said that more than 300 workers work on the tunnel in three shifts, and that more than 1000 people are engaged on the construction the tunnel which will be 3 km long.

The excavation is being done by Austrian method, and various engineers are present at the digging sites.

Ramić added that tunnel building is very precise, and that all the engineers and investors are satisfied with the quality of the job.

The tunnel will be equipped with the most modern equipment, and the road Sarajevo-Zenica will be shortened by 6 kilometres. The value of the 1st phase of the works is 18 million EUR.

”Group of BiH companies will successfully finish the job before the deadline and show that they are capable doing the most demanding construction projects and justify the trust of investors. It is particularly important that with these jobs, BiH companies get a recommendation for future jobs”, said Ramić.
