First Plane with Meat takes off from the Tuzla Airport

turkishThe first plane with nearly 63 tons of animal origin products took off from the Tuzla International Airport for Turkey yesterday. This act officially established the long-expected cargo traffic from this airport. This is the first delivery of meat from BiH for the Turkish market after a several-month-long break due to the affair with the export of meat that does not originate from BiH.

The interest for the export of animal origin products from the Tuzla Canton already exists, and the establishment of the cargo traffic is of great significance for the economy of this region and the country as a whole.

Director of the Tuzla International Airport Rifet Karasalihović said that yesterday’s act was a crown of significant efforts invested over the past six months with the aim of establishing cargo operations from this airport.

“Establishment of cargo traffic from our airport is of great significance, given that this act establishes the Tuzla International Airport as an airport operator in BiH for cargo operations. We expect all of this to result in substantial financial winnings, so we directed all our activities in the past six months towards establishing cargo operations. I believe this will also be very important for the business entities that will use our airport for cargo operations,” Karasalihović said.

The Tuzla Airport also provided a special platform for cargo operations and the cargo traffic is separated from the passenger traffic.

Company Turkish Airlines-Cargo is in charge of the transportation of animal origin products. This company signed a contract with management of the Tuzla Airport.

“They will operate with an Airbus 330, and we have already conducted procurement of equipment so that we could adequately receive that plane. When it comes to the number of operations, we currently dispose with information that there will be around 60 to 70 operations between June 2 and November 30 this year,” Karasalihović said.

Last year, the Tuzla International Airport was granted permission by the Commission for Integrated Management of Borders of BiH for cargo traffic, and the establishment of this operation created a need for an additional facility which will be built by the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH on this airport in the coming two years.

This facility, which will cost about two million BAM, will accommodate employees of the ITA BiH, of the national border service, and of all necessary inspection authorities whose duty is to monitor the export of animal origin products.

In the past year, this Airport hired another 108 workers who are able to respond to the needs of cargo operations.

In the end, Karasalihović said that the aim of the management of this Airport is to attract as many airlines as possible with favorable prices and have them operating from the Tuzla International Airport.
