First Remains of Persons killed after the Fall of Srebrenica found

Zvornik Exhumation spijun.netExhumation of the remains of killed victims of Bosniak nationality in 1995 started at the locality of Kozluk, Municipality of Zvornik.

Investigators from the Special Department of War Crimes within the Prosecutor’s Office of B&H are on the field, directly supervising and coordinating the exhumation process upon the order of the acting prosecutor.

The exhumation was started on December 4 under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of B&H. Until now, first skeletal remains have been found in the primary mass grave. According to preliminary information, the remains belong to the victims of Bosniak nationality killed at the locality of Kozluk, after the fall of Srebrenica, in the summer of 1995.

The exhumed remains will be transported to the Commemoration Center Tuzla, where they will be identified with the method of DNA analysis and the identity of victims whose remains have been found will be determined.

The exhumation is to continue in the coming days.

Participants in the exhumation process are members of the Institute for Missing Persons B&H, representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons, a medical specialist in forensic medicine, as well as the police officers of the Police Station Kozluk.

The Prosecutor’s Office of B&H, together with all institutions involved in the process of searching for and identification of missing persons, is continuing intense activities on searching for missing persons across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
