FMs of Croatia and BiH discussed the Southern Interconnection and the BiH Election Law

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Elmedin Konakovic, said yesterday after the meeting with the head of the Croatian diplomacy, Gordan Grlic Radman, that, among other things, the two discussed the Southern Interconnection and the BiH Election Law.

“Before Zagreb, the first official visit was to Brussels. We wanted to show in a symbolic way what the priorities of our foreign policies are. BiH is a country with Euro-Atlantic ambitions. We have momentum by gaining candidate status, which is not a consequence of our good political story, but a broader geopolitical story,” Konakovic stated.

He pointed out that the Euro-Atlantic path has no alternative. He added that yesterday he met with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, and the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic.

Moreover, he emphasized that they discussed the Southern Interconnection, the Adriatic-Ionian motorway, the airport in Trebinje, and the BiH Election Law.

Konakovic pointed out that the topic of electoral law is very important for both the Croatian authorities and BiH.

“They are part of the program of this new coalition. They have several aspects. I am not the first to speak in light of the fact that it is not fair for us Bosniaks to elect a member of the Presidency to Croats in BiH. Silajdzic and Bakir Izetbegovic, Radoncic, and Reis Kavazovic also said this before me. It is interesting that my position caused a lot of controversy in the public and probably will today as well. These controversies don’t particularly bother us,” he added.

Speaking about the Southern Interconnection, he said that it is an opportunity for our country and that he advocates that BiH be a meeting place between East and West.

“To be a place where the energy sector meets and provides us with complete independence from anyone and makes us potentially a place that makes a lot of money from it. Southern Interconnection is one of the priorities and we will do everything to make it happen,” Konakovic concluded, Klix.ba reports.
