Even though smokers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are used to spending more money per box of cigarettes every year, from January 1st, 2022, there will be no price increase.
The Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH (ITA) told that large cigarette manufacturers and distributors have not announced an increase in retail cigarette prices.
“From January 1st, 2022, there will be no increase in the price of cigarettes in BiH. To recall, earlier this year the ITA Board of Directors passed a Decision on determining a special and minimum excise duty on cigarettes for 2022, which defines that excise duty on cigarettes will be the same as in 2021, ” it was said.
It is important to mention that all producers and large distributors of cigarettes must always inform the ITA BiH about one month before the entry into force of the new retail prices of cigarettes in BiH.
In previous years, every January, the retail prices of cigarettes in BiH were higher by 0.10 to 0.20 BAM.
According to the adopted decision, which is based on the Law on Excise Duties in BiH, from January 1st, 2022, the minimum excise tax will be 166.50 BAM for 1.000 cigarettes or 3.33 BAM for a pack of 20 cigarettes.
With that decision from November this year, the specific excise tax remained at the same level, ie 1.65 BAM for a pack of 20 cigarettes, while the minimum excise tax was increased from 3.25 to 3.33 BAM for the same package.
The excise tax on smoking tobacco is set at 80 percent of the minimum excise tax and will amount to 133.20 BAM per kilogram.
