Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was wounded today during a campaign rally while giving a speech, has died.
Japanese police officials have identified Tetsuya Yamagami, a resident of the city of Nara in his 40s, as the person who shot former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
A former marine shot Abe, the motive for the assassination was dissatisfaction with the former prime minister, Klix.ba writes.
Yamagami attacked Abe with a gun while the former prime minister was giving a speech near Yamato-Saidaiji Station in the city of Nara. Abe fell to the ground and was bleeding from the chest, according to photos shared by Japanese news agencies.
Doctors fought for his life for hours, but unfortunately they did not succeed. At the police station, Yamagami reportedly said he shot former Prime Minister Abe because he was unhappy with him.
A report by Japan’s NHK news agency also revealed that Yamagami worked for three years as a marine in the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
