Former Policeman Dragan Vikic acquitted of War Crimes

Today, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina acquitted Dragan Vikic, Jusuf Pusina, Nermin Uzunovic and Mladen Covcic of the first instance verdict, which the Prosecution charged with war crimes committed in Sarajevo’s Veliki Park.

The indictment charged them with knowing and being members of the RBiH Army and the Territorial Defense and the JNA Reserve, which was under the control of the then Republika Srpska Army (VRS) in April 1992, as members of police and security structures. informed of the capture of eight soldiers.

According to the indictment, on April 22, 1992, eight soldiers of Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) were captured after the tire of a transporter in the Sarajevo settlement of Dobrinja, after which they were taken to the Dobrinja police station.

“The detainees were transferred to the Novi Grad Public Security Station, where they were physically abused, and then, by order of the chief, for their safety, transferred to escorted vehicles to the Police House, where the Special Unit of the BiH Ministry of Interior under Vikic’s command was located,” it is stated in the indictment.

According to the indictment, with Vikić’s knowledge, the prisoners were taken to the basement, and then to Veliki Park, where, after previous ill-treatment, the accused Uzunovic and Covcic and their acquaintances, including Nedzad Herenda and Nermin Jusic, killed them by firing weapons.

According to Vikic’s order and with the knowledge of Pusina, as the assistant minister of the uniformed police, the indictment says, the bodies were taken to Dariva in Sarajevo and dumped in Miljacka river, and a day later, doused in gasoline and set on fire.

Partial remains of the two killed have been found, and the others are still being searched for.

The indictment alleges that Vikic, as a superior, “knew or could have known about the removal of the body, but did not take the necessary measures to prevent it, report the perpetrators and punish the perpetrators, while Pusina agreed to remove the body and failed to do everything to will be punished “.

According to the indictment, the VRS crisis headquarters was informed that the detainees were released after interrogation.
