Forto: BiH missed an Opportunity in December, now we have to wait for a new Deadline

If we are talking about the negotiations of Bosnia and Herzegovina for joining the European Union, we are completely stuck there. We had an open door in December, we didn’t use it and now we will have to wait for a new deadline, said the Minister of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina Edin Forto in an interview for BHRT.

In order to start using the funds from the Growth Plan, Bosnia and Herzegovina should adopt two agreements and ratify them – the Instrument Agreement and the Loan Agreement. Forto reminded that these agreements must be passed by the Council of Ministers, both houses of parliament and the BiH Presidency.

“We don’t even have a draft of the texts of those agreements. I have the feeling that there is some kind of tacit agreement between the Minister of Finance and the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers that nothing will be done about it. I can’t explain it any other way, three months after the green light, we haven’t done anything,” he added.

When it comes to solving the problems of BiH carriers, Minister Forto says that, after regional protests by drivers, attention has finally been drawn to this problem in the right way.

“Working meetings will begin next Wednesday where some of the solutions that were offered at the ministerial meeting we had on Tuesday will be considered. I cannot predict the outcome, but this is a dialogue that is now really open and I hope it will yield some results,” he said.

Financing and survival of the Public Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Brussels were not the topic this time, Forto said, adding that he uses every opportunity to put the issue on the agenda.

“I insist that solving the stable financing of the public service should be placed at the top of the priorities. However, considering how the structures within the Council of Ministers are now observing our process of accession to the European Union, it seems that big things, medium things and small things are not on the radar of those who make key decisions,” he said.

“Simply, it seems that everyone raised their hands, I guess, entering the election year. I think it’s a bad approach to politics,” said Minister Edin Forto for BHRT, with whom our correspondent Dušan Gajić spoke.
