Four Helicopters are extinguishing the Fire in the Sutjeska National Park

Four helicopters are currently engaged in extinguishing the fire that engulfed the forest in the “Sutjeska” National Park, and the arrival of two more helicopters from Serbia is expected to help bring the fire under control.

This was stated for Fena news ageny by Željko Stojanović from the Republic Administration of Civil Protection, who points out that two helicopters of the Helicopter Service of the RS and two helicopters of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been engaged, and that Serbia, after the decision was made in the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will send its two helicopters in the afternoon helicopters that have significantly higher capacities for firefighting.

At the moment, the entire region has its eyes on Sutjeska, bearing in mind that it is an area covered by exceptionally high-quality forest and Pančić’s spruce.

“That is completely understandable, but at this moment, the rule is to direct all strength, all attention and energy into fighting the fire. Only when it is overcome, the competent services will assess the damage. As for the area, it is certainly large and it is the largest and most dangerous fire in the RS. I hope that soon with these two helicopters from Serbia we will localize the fire and bring it under control,” says Stojanović.

He notes that high air temperature is definitely a risk factor, which the authorities constantly warn about.

“This is not from yesterday. Dry air and heat are extremely suitable for a fire in an open space, and it is enough for some irresponsible individual to cause a major disaster,” warns Stojanović.

In this case, as he notes, it did not reach the level of such a disaster, emphasizing once again the hope that the fire will be localized as soon as possible.

By the way, there is a round-the-clock fight with the fire in the “Sutjeska” National Park. The fire is in a large forest in the location of Gornje bare – Siljevica on the left side of the Sutjeska river canyon. Teams of the Republican Administration of Civil Protection of the RS (RUCZ RS), Rescue Service “Volf” from Foča, Civil Protection of the Municipality of Foča, firefighters from Foča, Gack, workers of NP “Sutjeska”, and four helicopters are operating and operating in anticipation of two helicopters with larger capacities from Serbia.

In the Republika Srpska, there are four more active fires that are under control – in Bileća, on Mount Baba and on the stretch of Granica – Krstače. The municipality of Bileća requested the engagement of a helicopter to extinguish those fires on inaccessible terrain. There is an active fire in Doboj but under complete control, while firefighters and construction machines are fighting the fire at the garbage dump in Karakaj. With the help of pumps, the landfill is soaked with water from the Drina.

In the past 24 hours, 24 more successful firefighting interventions were registered in Srpska – in Pale, Doboj, Bijeljina, East Mostar, Nevesinje, Gacko, Trebinje… The Republican Administration of Civil Protection of the RS carries out general monitoring, and is logistically and operationally engaged at the fire sites in Zelengora and in White.
