Preparations have begun for the “Peace March 2023”, the most massive activity that takes place as part of the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica – said the president of the Subcommittee for the organization of the “March of Peace”, Suljo Čakanović.

Registrations are ongoing and preparations for this year’s Peace March, as he said, are proceeding according to schedule

“Preparations have started on the infrastructure to secure the route, although we have a problem at the Buljim location where it is not possible to access the machines that need to work on the arrangement of the route. All the routes through which the participants of the “March of Peace” pass will be ready by July 1. This year, we expect around four thousand participants,”  said Čakanović.

When it comes to medical assistance during the “Peace March”, the participants will have the help of medical teams from Tuzla and Sarajevo Cantons, as well as the support of the BiH Armed Forces.

“The Red Cross teams are in the pedestrian area 24 hours a day with the participants and this is very well supported logistically. And the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina are at the disposal of all participants. In addition to our medics, medics from Turkey also provide medical assistance,” said Čakanović.

All participants should bring blankets, and they will be provided with drinking water, fruit and other refreshments during the entire route at designated places. It is also provided with anti-snake bite serum.

This year, it is also planned to hold history lessons for the participants of the “Peace March” about the genocide that took place in July 1995, and book promotions on the subject are also planned.

The Subcommittee asks organized groups and individuals to register on time on the official website marsmira.net, so that the organizer can adequately respond to all challenges. Interested organized groups can register for this year’s “March of Peace” until July 1, while individuals can also register on the day of the column’s departure from Nezuk.

The route that the participants will follow is about 100 kilometers long, and the departure from Nezuk is on July 8.

The Peace March is a pedestrian march that takes place as part of the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide against the Bosniaks in Srebrenica and its surroundings with the aim of honoring the victims of the genocide. It starts from the local community of Nezuk, municipality of Sapna, and lasts for three days from July 8 to 10, with the same number of stages. Each stage is between 25 and 30 km long.

On the route, participants can see some of the locations where mass executions of captured Bosniaks took place or where primary or secondary mass graves were found.
