Esteban has left Argentina to start a new life with his family in Dučić town. The dentist by profession now making a living from agriculture, and new acquaintances in Trebinje gave him a new name – Stevan.
When six years ago for the first time he visited Herzegovina, the country of his ancestors, the Argentinean Esteban Milović did not even think that he would come to live there. However, at the beginning of 2010, with his wife and six children, 46-year-old Esteban left Chile, where although he was a dentist he was also engaged in agriculture.
He settled in Trebinje and devoted himself to the production of fruits. He says that he realized that people here are very hardworking as well as land and climate are suitable conditions for agriculture.
“River Trebišnjica provides ideal conditions and beside everything here it is possible to grow fruits in a global level”, says Esteban.
Esteban or Stevan as Bosnians call him, with four cousins from Australia, South Africa, Germany and America, bought more than 50% of the stock farm “Popovo Polje” in Dubljani near Trebinje.
Jadranka Aleksić, the Director of the company, explains that in 60 hectares are plant apples, where was applied the most modern technology, about 80 hectares of vineyards and experimental field with 3.5 hectares of cherries. The products are sold at domestic markets, but are planning for export soon.
Besides Esteban Milović, Trebinje is open even for other investors. The mayor of Trebinje Slavko Vučurević points out that future investors can expect the greatest benefits from the city administration such as primarily reflected in the release of all utility fees.
The city on the Trebišnjica is located close to Dubrovnik and Herceg Novi, with more than 270 sunny days a year, providing nearly ideal conditions for agriculture, and other sectors, and the interest of potential investors for investment is growing.
