Gazi Husrev-bey library marked 481 years of work and 45th anniversary of publishing the Annals of Gazi Husrev-bey library magazine, with whom this library and its significant materials became a bit more open to the public.

Director of Gazi Husrev-bey library Osman Lavic noted that this institution was registered in UNESCO’s “Memory of the World Register” because of its collection of manuscripts, more than 10.000 Ottoman documents, periodics and other materials.

“This institution definitely deserves more attention. I hope that the library will be more in focus of social community of University of Sarajevo, Canton of Sarajevo, the City of Sarajevo and other institutions in the future period, in both financial and organizational sense. We exist because of our users and materials that we keep. Our goal is to enable more quality access to materials, and we established digital Gazi Husrev-bey library for that purpose this year,” said Lavic.

This project was started several years ago, and its first phase will be completed this year. BH periodics from the end of Ottoman period until 1945 was digitalized, and it will be available to researchers on their official web site.

Yesterday was promoted a new issue of Annals of Gazi Husrev-bey library magazine. In this magazine are published professional works of local and foreign experts from the fields of history, literature, library, art, orientalistics, linguistics, and Islamic topics and related fields that are based on fonds and rich materials of Gazi Husrev-bey library are treated in a special way.

Muhamed Hadzijahic, Mehmed Traljic, Mehmed Mujezinovic, Osman Sokolovic, Kasim Dobraca and Alija Nametak are just some of the famous names whose works were published in Annals.

Letters of appreciation were handed over to institutions and individuals who donated book collections, museum material and supported the work of Gazi Husrev-bey library in different ways.
