The Gazi Husrev-bey Madrasah in Sarajevo, an educational institution of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is marking the 486th anniversary of continuous work in education in the spirit of faith and the needs of life.
“Working and fulfilling its mission throughout centuries, this institution has become more than a school for our people – it has become a symbol and a heart”, said the acting director of the Madrasah Dževad Pleh.
Everything that is taught in other schools is studied in the Madrasah, it is a public institution, and therefore it carries out and fulfills all the program tasks of the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton, as well as the program tasks of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH.
Despite the difficulties we have, he added, we achieve good results.
Currently, 465 students attend the Madrasah. The building is being reconstructed, and the premises of the women’s boarding school are being extended and adapted. There are 16 classes in the Madrasah.
The Gazi Husrev-bey Madrasah was opened in 1537 when the great Gazi Husrev-bey founded it, and until today it has educated tens of thousands of distinguished individuals who have played a significant role in the history of the survival and development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
