The German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a statement after SNSD President Milorad Dodik compared the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, to Nazi Germany’s leader Adolf Hitler during a visit to Russia.
“The statement, which former RS President Milorad Dodik made in Moscow on September 9, 2025, once again contains unacceptable and offensive historical comparisons. We call on everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina to distance themselves from Mr. Dodik’s way of expressing himself and to cooperate with the international community in a decent manner,” the German Embassy said.
They also explained that Schmidt was appointed in accordance with the established rules regarding high representatives.
“We recall that High Representative Schmidt was nominated by Germany and elected by the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council in full accordance with international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, starting with Resolution 1031 (1995). As the final authority for making binding decisions on the necessary measures for the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, his powers derive from Annex 10 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP) and have been regularly confirmed by the UN Security Council since 1998, including Resolution 1144,” they said.
Finally, they added that the Constitutional Court of BiH confirmed the powers of the High Representative in our country.
Dodik, it should be recalled, compared Schmidt to Hitler in Moscow and stated that BiH is “under military occupation by EUFOR.”
He also expressed his wish for Russia to veto the extension of the mandate of the EUFOR-Althea mission when this issue comes up for a vote in the UN Security Council.
