German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 9th and 10th.
According to the German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bearbock will meet with the Chairman and members of the BiH Presidency, BiH Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic, members of the Collegium of both houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, BiH High Representative Cristian Smidht and mayors and representatives of civil society.
Accompanied by German Minister Baerbock will be the newly appointed Special Envoy of the Government of Germany for the Western Balkans Manuel Sarrazin.
The focus of political talks will be the current political and security-political situation in Europe and the internal political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After visiting BiH, Minister Baerbock will travel to Kosovo, Serbia and Moldova.
This will be a continuation of a kind of offensive German diplomacy regarding the situation in BiH and the region, which Germany considers very serious.
”The situation in BiH is worrying. Efforts to secede are unacceptable. In my opinion, that means that the current sanctions regime should be applied against Mr. Dodik as well,”Baerbock stated after the meeting of European Union (EU) foreign ministers in mid-December last year.
At the recent meeting in Munich, which was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Bisera Turkovic, the role of the EU was discussed, among other things, and the importance of Germany’s constructive engagement in our region was emphasized. The German Foreign Minister said that the country would continue to support the countries of the region and reiterated that the future of the Western Balkans is in the EU.
