A specially equipped aircraft of the German Air Force will soon fly over Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the international “Open Skies” agreement, which allows Member States to monitor and track military activities from the air.

The Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Communications and Transport, and Sarajevo International Airport, will organize an observation flight by the Federal Republic of Germany with representatives from the Republic of Croatia, Republic of France, Czech Republic, and Hungary, in accordance with the regulations of the “Open Skies” agreement.

Citizens are informed that this is a pre-announced activity. During the flight, the escort team from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Communications and Transport will join the plane crew and international inspectors, and there is no reason for panic.

The observation flight will be carried out by the A319OH from the Air Force of the Federal Republic of Germany.

This is a passenger airplane, Airbus A319, specially equipped with sensors and cameras for recording territories under the “Open Skies” agreement. The territory is recorded using sensors certified in accordance with the regulations of the Agreement, following inspection by competent specialists of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The exact time and flight path of the observation flight will be agreed upon during joint preparation, after the arrival of representatives at Sarajevo International Airport.

The “Open Skies” agreement is one of the security arrangements that enables member states to record the territory of the country over which the observation flight is conducted, with the aim of collecting data about military forces and their activities.

The purpose of the Agreement is to build and develop trust among its members. Bosnia and Herzegovina joined this Agreement in 2023. Since then, in cooperation with other member states, it has actively participated in observation flights over the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and over the territories of other member states.
