The Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Zukan Helez, signed a technical agreement with the Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany on the donation of five vehicles for the transport of hazardous materials.

On behalf of the Ministry of Defence of Germany, the agreement was signed by Colonel Marc Abendroth, the military attache of the Federal Republic of Germany in BiH.

The implementer of this project will be the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in BiH, and during this ceremony, a “Letter on financial transfer” was also signed between UNDP BiH and the German Ministry of Defence, and the signatories were, on behalf of UNDP, Deputy Resident Representative Victor Munteanu and the German military attache Colonel Marc Abendroth.

The Minister of Defence of BiH, Zukan Helez, thanked Colonel Marc Abendroth and Victor Munteanu for their great contribution to the implementation of the project for the procurement of specialized vehicles for the transport of hazardous materials.

These are vehicles that meet all standards defined by international regulations for the transport of hazardous materials (ADR), and for the Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH), they represent exceptional importance due to the obligation of safe transport of ammunition and mine-explosive devices that have been declared unstable.

“Today’s signing of the Technical Agreement between the Ministry of Defence of BiH and the Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany on the donation of vehicles for the transport of hazardous materials represents yet another important step in building a safer environment, both for the local and the wider community. I am glad that UNDP will be the implementer of this project as well, which will greatly contribute to improving the safety of hazardous materials transport and the modernization of the AFBiH,” emphasized Minister Helez.

He emphasized the great importance of Germany’s selfless support not only to the AFBiH, but also to the state of BiH.

“The Federal Republic of Germany is recognized as a reliable and proven partner of BiH, which has been confirmed many times through the implementation of numerous projects and initiatives in the defence sector. As a member of NATO and the European Union (EU), Germany represents an important and respectable partner on our path towards Euro-Atlantic integration,” said Helez.

The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, through a substantial package of donations to the AFBiH, has significantly contributed to the improvement of infrastructure and living conditions at military locations.

“We sincerely thank the Federal Republic of Germany for this extremely important support, which significantly contributes to improving the capacities and efficiency of the AFBiH,” emphasized Helez.

On this occasion, German Colonel Abendroth stated that the continuity of further German assistance to the AFBiH will not be absent, and that this donation is very important for the citizens of BiH, and will improve the operational capabilities of the AFBiH.
