Workers of the Global ispat coking plant Lukavac (GIKIL), as they announced, went on a general strike this morning.

GIKIL workers held a warning strike yesterday in order to once again try to reach an agreement with the management on the fulfillment of their demands, payment of salaries and linking of seniority.

On the same day, they had a meeting in the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but there they did not receive a concrete solution to their problems, which put 800 jobs at risk.

The President of the “Koksara” Workers’ Union, Ermin Halilović, said that the company’s losses are estimated at more than 100 million BAM, and that the current monthly loss is 1.5 million euros.

According to him, the Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić and the Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić said that this was not within their jurisdiction, but that they would make efforts to contact the Government of the Tuzla Canton and solve the problem together.
